Housing
Housing is an important part of the study abroad experience, and IES Barcelona selects housing in the city's best neighbourhoods. IES students are expected to adapt to their accommodations and respect the cultural context in which they are living.
All accommodations located by IES are screened and approved by IES staff to ensure acceptable standards of comfort. All admitted students are sent a housing questionnaire where they can list their preferences or special needs.
Since IES arranges housing for the whole duration of the program, you may not change your housing later without incurring substantial financial cost, so please think carefully about your housing preference before making your choice.
We are conscious that adapting to the new environment can take time, this is why IES will not change the housing option during the first two weeks upon arrival. Students need some time to adjust to the new environment before making any decision regarding housing.
Notice that IES does not insure students' property while they are abroad. We strongly recommend students to purchase property insure beforehand. Despite students' best efforts to safeguard their property, it might be lost, stolen or damaged when travelling or living abroad. Students should investigate their parents' homeowners insurance to verify if all the items that the student brings will be covered by their policy. We recommend that you insure all items, especially high cost items such as laptop computers, CD players, or other valuables.
